Obsidian is not a crystal but actually black volcanic glass that formed when bubbling violent explosions of magma erupted from earth and cooled where it fell. Treasured in differing capacities across time and space, there is evidence that this glassy sheen material was bladed in prehistoric times, used as glassware by ancient Romans, and even alluded to “Tezcatlipoca,” an Aztecan deity translating to “Smoking Mirror,” representing the multi-dimensional portal that black Obsidian’s lustrous reflection provided access to.
